Gwendolyn Rosella ALLISON

Source e-mail from Bob Weir \to Edward Osborn 12 Jun 2006 "mom passed away Feb. 5th 2003. Fred and I were able to be with her to the very end and she went to meet our Lord very peacefully. Mom was never really happy in a nursing home so when she realized she could no longer spend holidays with her kids and grandkids I think she just gave up."

288. Laura Evelyn WEIR

regarding Laura Weir - in early 1980"s I was living in Tulsa Oklahoma, and had an opportunity to go to Australia with a young missionary and his young family to work with the Aborigine people in the McDonald range near Perth.
I would be serving as part Nannie, part Secretary - jack of all trades. I had been in Austrailia with my husband Bill Norris, an international Lecturer, in 1950 - just after the end of World War II, and I was anxious to go back.
Travel restrictions at that time were excessive - I would be able to take 1 bag. and as I remember it now, in 2006, - total weight no to exceed 34 lbs. My collected Genealogical records on the Gardner family consisted of over nine thousand names. research from Washington and Scott Counties of Indiana, copies of Deeds - - Copies of Grandfather Millhouser's will etc etc etc. The most important being a small red book regarding the presbyterian followers of William Martin and their arrival in this country.
I could not take these records to Australia and I needed to find a secure place to store store those records while I was in Australia. - I had been corresponding with Laura (Weir) Kahoe of Sharon Oklahoma - Laura being a daughter of Johnnie Carlton Weir of my line. She offered that storage. I took the Genealogical records and mistakenly, my address book, to Sharon , Oklahoma before continuing on to Texas to be with the young missionary as we made final perparations for our tripto Australia..
Laura's husband was an Invalid of many years - he ad been an oil field worker and had fallen from a rig and received extremely serious injuries, for years she had nursed and cared for him.
I had arrived in Sharon at about three in the afternoon - that evening Laura's brother Walter W. Weir who lived in Thomas, Custer Co., Oklahoma arrived, and we spent a delightful evening discussing our family history.
The next morning I left for Texas.
In 1982 I tried to contact Laura and could not find her - Her husband had died. She had remarried, and moved to another area.I was finally able to contact her son - a Psychiatrist , in Blackwell Oklanoma who said that she was in a nursing home and comatose. He admitted having some of my work but refused to let me reclaim any of materials that I had left with his mother.
Needless to say I was upset - that is stating it mildly, but after sulking for a time I realized that all things happen for a reason. I would start over - but having done enough research on the family to realize that there were many errors I decided to research the research to find the source of some of the errors I had found and this policy has continued now for ten years - Now in the 84th year of my age I continue the search with a data base of over 8,000 Gardner-Weir descendants found in every state of the United States and several other countries scattered over the world.

I found the Work of Laura Weir in the Mormon Library in Salt Lake, Utah - The Bible of Lillie Dale Williams and Johnnie Carlton Weir. She had listed the children - grandchildren - great-grandchildren of James Gardner Weir and Mary Ann (Hougland) biving birth and death dates - no other information

I Contacted Janet Scott - in Bellevue Missouri who had written book on the Weir family - Recording descendants of George William Weir son of George and Margaret (Gardner) Weir. this needs to be finished - and transferred to it's own file. must leave now to keep an appointment at the Veterans Hosphtal in Prescott.
